  Sister #1

I’m so excited for you to meet two of my favorite people ever and join in

our dream we’ve dreamed for years now. In the birth order, I am the oldest

and more than once I have been asked if I am the mother to the youngest

sister. To which I quickly answer with as little indignation as I can muster.

No! She is my sister!

I am Jackie and I was also born on the cotton farm in Texas, which makes us all the farmer’s daughters. I am the sister who chose to keep my feet in Texas, the same town and school where we all attended. This little story may be part of the reason. After our granddaughter had spent a week at Camp GigiPawpaw with us one summer, I had taken her around town with me to meet

the postmaster, to my friend who has a boutique, to the little burrito place and many of my friends who live here. That night as we lay in bed, I was writing in my journal and I ask Kennedy what she liked best about coming to visit here. She thought for a minute and said,” well everybody is a Christian here.” I quickly thought that I needed to be careful how I replied. I told her that many were but I thought there were some maybe that weren’t. She sweetly said ”well, I haven’t met any who aren’t.” I am born, raised, and now I graze in Texas. A sweet little town to raise children in.

Contentedly retired after 38 years as an administrative assistant in the school district, my passions include our family. I am GiGi to four grands. My husband and I will be married 59 years this July. I would describe him as the soul of patience and as a baby whisperer, having walked miles, whistling babies in the family to sleep. Other passions include our 109 year old home that we completely remodeled, gardening, leading Women’s Bible Studies and relishing time with the sisters and watching football. I have the most incredible friends, who are gifts from God and love spending time with them too.

After the nest emptied for us, the kids left for college, and I retired, God began to draw me to writing. It became a way to express my heart, and an outlet and therapy. Years ago, our daughter suggested I should start journaling my prayers which led to a shelf of journals in our bookcase. I love a beautiful journal and a good pen. After retirement, I began writing a Tuesday Thought every week and hope to put those together someday as a devotional book. The best thing to come from writing is the realization that God can use the smallest thing to fulfill your heart’s need. He knows our longings before we ever know them ourselves.

The three sister’s dream is to help others find their God-given gifts and passions and longings.

And the youngest sister said to the oldest sister, “if your dreams don’t scare you…they’re not big enough.”……..from Hollyhock House
