A Story of Joy…

Okay, friends, we begin with a full disclosure statement. Joy’s bio is written in collaboration by her two sisters, per her older sisters’ insistence. Two reasons initiate this. 1) Joy is totally immersed in creating her magical, whimsical originals, painting lessons, templates, canvases, and plans. As the visionary of A Joyful HeArt Studio, she is holding that paint brush and bringing life to what is yet to be! 2) Joy is the most humble, non-tooter of your own horn, you’ll ever meet. The sisters want to let you see an ahead glimpse of her personality and the talent she possesses. We are the ones on the mountaintop tooting that horn in her honor… for you to hear!

Joy was born in Lockney, Texas, growing up on the cotton farm in Lone Star, like those of us before her… LONG before her! Her oldest brother sibling turned 20 the year she was born. She was a “Joyful” announcement that shocked us all frankly! Her carefully chosen name captured how we all felt…sheer joy. Family, along with family friends’ doted over her and spoiled her rotten. She worked her little finger mightily and kept us right where she wanted!!!

We are touched by her sweet remembrances of childhood. She had an attraction to moving vehicles. Her little red trike went hundreds of miles around the loop that went through every room in the farmhouse. Sisters had one foot on the bumper and pushed with the other, delighted with her screams of “more, more.” Her baby doll stroller held captive her little mutt dog, Blackie. Blackie traveled far and wide with his mommy pushing. Poor pup! She pedaled her green metal car on the cement topped tornado cellar, day in and out. The girl had the need for speed! She perched on Daddy’s lap to drive the tractor. Her first homemaking skills came in the haystack, irritated beyond measure when Daddy moved a bale! She moved her home to her deluxe designed playhouse (a chicken house totally renovated by her Papaw, an accomplished carpenter). Discovery of a mouse infestation, caused her quick departure, freshly baked mud pies in hand. She never looked back! New skills had to be developed…secretarial. She worked long hours at that little roll-top desk. We feel her love of color began with colored pens and pencils the secretary hoarded! Joy inherited her homemaking skills from Momma; Daddy’s genes gave her the artistic flair. She loved his creative sketches and doodles! Daddy played the banjo, piano, fiddle, and harmonica by ear. We had nightly duet concerts, Daddy on the banjo and Joy playing a mean clarinet…pretty sure the neighbors down the street could enjoy that concert as well!!!

Joy left home for Oklahoma to attend Southwestern Oklahoma State, earning her Elementary Ed degree. She met, fell in love, and married David. He is her biggest supporter and encourager of her following her dreams. Joy and David are credited

with initiating our sisters/bro-in-laws trips back in time to our beloved Red River, New Mexico. Joy’s dreams of this business may indeed have its roots in our times together there!

Even though we recognized Joy’s homemaking and nurturing skills in childhood, no one could have ever dreamed those skills were to be tested…4 kids in 4 years!!! A saint, we tell you, a saint!!! Her children and 11 grands fill her revolving door home with action, meals, playful activities, noise, and love. Her home and studio is a haven of creativity and happiness. There is nothing this mom, sister, friend, wife wouldn’t do for those around her. She generously gives prayers, snippets of original art, painted cards and notes to those who need a perk of love. In short…she’s adored, admired and loved by all!

You will find Joy’s cute personality infectious. Her home, her studio, her presence is a haven of JOY. Come join in the happy!

P.S. We will have to go to press without Joy’s approval…remember her humbleness!
